Lord Ganeshji Festival - Did you know? - Part 5

Insured for Rs 1 crore

Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati Temple is a temple dedicated to the Lord Ganesha in Pune.  The temple is popular in Maharashtra and is visited by thousands of pilgrims every year.

The main Ganesha idol is insured for a sum of 1 crore.

History of
Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati Temple
The temple was founded in 1893 by Dagadusheth. It is believed that he lost his son in a plague outbreak which plunged him and his wife in a state of depression. To bring him out of this state, his Guru advised him to make idols of Lord Ganesha and Shree Datta Maharaj and take care of them like he would father his son. It was then that the very first idol of Ganesha was made.

Ganpati Bappa Morya!!

Vinâyakî is a feminine form of Lord Ganesh; she has an elephant head and the body of a female.

She is commonly believed to represent the Shakti of Ganesh/Vinâyaka. The Matsya Purana mentions Vinayaki as one of the two hundred celestial mothers created by Lord Shiva. Linga Purana mentions Vinayaki as a demonness deity with an elephant head created, which was found amidst the restored sculptures of the Causath-Yogini temple in Jabalpur.

Lord Ganeshji Festival - Did You know?

Ganesh worship in Japan

Scholars commonly date the presence of Ganesha in Japan with the age of Kukai (774- 834), the founder of the Shingon sect of Japanese Esoteric Buddhism. Ganesha’s most popular form in Japan is the dual-Vinayaka or the Embracing Kangiten. Two tall figures, elephant-headed but human-bodied, male and female, stand in embrace. The female wears a jeweled crown, a patched monks robe, and a red surplice. Also called the Deva of Bliss, Kankiten is invoked both for enlightenment and for worldly gains. Kakiten-Vinayaka is offered radishes, wine, and fresh fruits. Whosoever fulfills the rituals of the dual Kangiten is believed to attain success in all worldly endeavors.
May Kangiten bless us all!

Lord Ganesh in Burma

Lord Ganesh is worshipped as Maha-Peinne or the Great Bliss and is known as the The Lord who removes obstacles.  Ganesh is a protector-deity of the famous Shwesardaw pagoda. The Buddhist Burmese also worship Thurathadi (Saraswati), Sandi (Chandi Devi), Paramethwa (Shiva), and Beikthano (Vishnu).
